Be A Pal

You read Copper Nickel because you enjoy it. You value the literary journal and its role in the literary ecology. Maybe you're interested in supporting the local endeavor. Maybe you value the literary programs Copper Nickel organizes in downtown Denver, or its high-school outreach activities. Maybe you value the unique collaboration, between the undergraduate student and the professor, through which each issue of Copper Nickel comes into being. Maybe you, like so many readers are one of those ubiquitous citizens of the arts.

We appreciate all the help you offer when you purchase and read copies of Copper Nickel, but we know that some of you may be looking to offer additional assistance. And we would be immensely grateful for that assistance.

It's been a difficult time for literary publishing, and for literary journals in particular. Two of our nation's most prestigious literary journals, The Southern Review and New England Review, have recently faced substantial budget cuts or complete elimination, even as book publishers scramble to restructure in a business where profits are slim.

We read the news with concern, as we begin each year with about half of the funding we need to operate. We work to earn the rest of the necessary money, often scraping scattered cents together.

Even so, we can see a number of pathways to long-term sustainability for our venture.

One is through increased circulation, particularly subscriber support. If we can build a base of 1,000 subscribers --- our goal by December 2011 --- and maintain that base, we can survive for many years into the future.

One is through charitable giving, and if you're reading this page, you may be interested in building this road.

We're launching a patronage program that will allow you to contribute to the mission of Copper Nickel---namely, the creation and preservation of a Denver-based literary journal---and sustain it for years to come.

If you're interested, you can become a Friend, a Sponsor, or Patron of Copper Nickel. All contributions are 100% tax-deductible.

  • For a donation of $100, you can become a Friend of Copper Nickel.
  • For a donation of $250, you can become a Sponsor of Copper Nickel.
  • For a donation of $500 or more, you can become a Patron of Copper Nickel.

All such supporters will receive a one-year subscription and will be recognized in the pages of Copper Nickel as well as on our website.

Each year, supporters will receive an annual report, detailing our efforts to solidify our brand, extend our reach, and sustain our ventures.

And hopefully, together, we can watch this effort grow and flourish and become a lasting institution in Denver and beyond.

How can you contribute?

It's pretty easy.

There are three ways to contribute.

The fastest, easiest way is to give via the University of Colorado Foundation's online giving form. Follow this link to the form and enter your information there. Your contribution will be acknowledged in 2-4 weeks by a letter, which will also function as a receipt, and your name will appear on our website at the same time, unless you request that your donation remain anonymous.

If you wish to contribute by check, you may download the linked giving form and return it to the University of Colorado Foundation at the address provided.

Finally, you may contribute through Paypal, by navigating to our storefront and following the directions there.
